Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2017

Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2017

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) works internationally to showcase the world’s most glamorous, poised and inspiring women to provide them with an opportunity to serve as spokeswomen for various cause alliances. Millions of viewers from all around the world tune in each year to find out who will win the coveted crown and receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve as an icon for women across the globe. During her reign, Miss Universe is given every opportunity for personal and professional enrichment through work with the organization’s valued professionals, who help to cultivate personal career goals, humanitarian fellowship and a constructive voice to effect positive change in the world.

Miss Universe is provided with all of the necessary tools to serve during her year-long reign. She is immediately relocated to New York City where she will work closely with the organization’s cause alliances. Although this role involves long hours and hard work, titleholders achieve celebrity status whilst attending red carpet events, movie premieres, VIP galas, fashion and beauty casting calls, and traveling all corners of the world. Titleholders have gone on to high-profile careers in government, business, finance, and broadcasting, as well as in film and television. The Miss Universe Organization continues to set the bar for beauty pageants of its kind, and will continue to spotlight the most accomplished women for generations to come!

This year, having sifted carefully through the enormous number of applications received, National Director for Miss Universe Sri Lanka Ms. Rosita Wickremesinghe, through Essential Entertainment, has selected Ms. Christina Peiris to represent Sri Lanka at the main pageant hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada in November this year, as Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2017.

Christina Peiris is 23 years old and a Fashion Designer by profession. Her clothing brand, XTINA, is a humanitarian brand, and a percentage of its profit is donated to cancer care services. Christina is also a social media influencer with over 17,000 followers on her blog, which centres on travel and lifestyle. She is a driven and bright young personality with a promising future ahead.

Christina will spend 3 weeks at the Miss Universe site promoting Sri Lanka and its cultural heritage amongst over 85 other delegates from around the world. We feel that this exceptional young lady would be ideally placed to represent Sri Lanka as a beauty ambassador. Sri Lanka has been represented at the Miss Universe pageant since its inception in 1955, where Ms. Maureen Hingert was placed 2nd Runner Up, launching her career in Hollywood and putting Ceylon on the map. In 2006, Jacqueline Fernandez as Sri Lanka’s representative rocketed to global fame and went on to a highly successful career in Bollywood. She continues to bring credit to Sri Lanka through her beauty, intelligence and drive to succeed.

We wish Christina all the best and have every confidence that she will do Sri Lanka proud on this global platform.
